Because of its location in one of the most picturesque counties of Northern California, Willits is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise.
There are several excellent trails and nature areas for hikers, bicyclists and campers to explore in and around the Willits area. Little Darby Nature Trail, Jackson Demonstration State Forest and Brooktrails offer trails of various lengths and terrain.
Hunting & fishing are popular pastimes and provide year round opportunities. Willits is situated within an hour of the Mendocino coast, Lake Mendocino and the Eel and Russian Rivers. Closer to home, Lake Emily and Lake Ada Rose in Brooktrails are favorite spots for trout fishing. Seasonal hunting is enjoyed on private ranches, in Jackson State Forest and in Mendocino National Forest north of Covelo.
Willits has several public parks for outdoor activities. The Recreation Grove and the Bud Snider City Park offer picnic benches, playgrounds and BBQ facilities. The Community Ball Fields and Willits Skate Park provide sporting facilities and the Frank Grasse Dog Park allows well-behaved dogs to get some off leash playtime.
