MAY
Annual Car & Bike Show – Memorial Day heralds the start of summer, but in Willits it also heralds the return of the classic cars. Each year, the Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Car & Bike Show under the stately oaks of the Recreation Grove. Car buffs and history buffs will find gorgeous vehicles from past eras vying for bragging rights and trophies. Live music, food and games make the Car Show fun for all ages.
JULY
Willits Frontier Days – The spirit of the frontier is alive and well in Willits, especially during the lead up to 4th of July when our town hosts two nights of CCPRA rodeo, dances, horseshows, a Junior Rodeo, a gymkhana, a Truck & Tractor Pull, a beef BBQ that serves 5,000, a carnival, and a 4th of July parade on Main Street. Billed as “the longest running continuous rodeo in California”, Frontier Days celebrates our town’s Western heritage.
SEPTEMBER
Roots of Motive Power Festival – To celebrate the efforts of their all-volunteer organization, Roots of Motive Power puts on a weekend of activities to showcase the most impressive pieces of their collection of antique steam-powered logging and locomotive equipment. Steam whistles can be heard throughout town, rides are given on steam-powered trains, and a giant BBQ followed by a raffle and live auction raises money for this uniquely Willits institution.
OCTOBER
Harvest Moon Festival – Held in the fall, this annual event put on by the Chamber of Commerce is a great way to enjoy small town life in the 21st century. Main Street comes alive with activities for kids, live music, merchant booths, street food vendors, and crowds of neighbors stopping on the sidewalk to offer friendly hellos. Downtown shops and restaurants stay open late and for a few hours Willits enjoys the bounty and abundance of our community.
DECEMBER
Roots of Motive Power Holiday Express – For the kid in all of us, Roots puts on this Christmas party each year featuring beautiful Christmas trees, Christmas carols, refreshments, and Santa arriving on a steam locomotive. This free, family event provides train rides, photo opportunities and real old-fashioned holiday fun.
